She paraphrased Bush (and this sentiment was also shared by Mitt Romney today in the NYTimes): John McCain should never be “misunderestimated”.

She went on – how John McCain will do depends on which John McCain shows up

Gov. Napolitano shared the hilarious and ironic explanation of where the word MAVERICK comes from and why it’s not a good title:

The word maverick refers to a head of cattle with no brand on it and comes from a rancher named Maverick who didn’t brand his cows so that it was easier to steal cows.  In fact, it’s known that you never put a maverick in leadership on a ranch.

Napolitano went on to suggest that it isn’t that McCain is unbranded, it’s that he doesn’t know which brand he wants.  That said – it’s not really about the brand he wants, it’s about the brand that he has: “McCain brand is a big fat W

Napolitano then went on to share that we need to consider the role of how the relatiosnship of states w/federal govt would be.  States have to balance budgets (although some have begun borrowing from the fed. Govt to cover basic items.  S-CHIP (children’s insurance) is a good example of McCain letting down the states.  He voted against it.  She wants a partner who will listen.

“Americans don’t have red wallets or blue wallets, they have empty wallets”

She finished out with the long list of Arizona politicians who aspired reached for the highest office in the land – and failed.  She hoped that this was one trend that continued “for now”.
