I highly recommend watching this video from the President about the dangers of the debt ceiling. . For the first 10 mins, he enumerates how we got where we are and how we go forward.
BUT THEN – at 11:30 – the President I worked so hard to elect really shows up. My favorite line is: “The American people may have voted for a divided government, but they didn’t vote for a dysfunctional government”…..2nd favorite is: “Americans are fed up with a town where compromise has become a dirty word” and then the call to action really hits it home when he asks people to contact their members of congress and finishes out with “We are disjointed individuals but not society”.
It was a fascinating move to almost let Boehner off the hook – speaking directly to those Republicans who signed a pledge that is binding them. Read this Opinion piece on the “Pledge” that Republicans are allowing to shackle them to idiocy. Then – take a look at this fantastic comment on that opinion piece.
Pick up the phone and call your (and other) members of congress! Raising the debt ceiling without raising revenue simply compounds our issues!
