Racism on the trail

A few days ago, a friend of a friend who is a reporter asked me about whether I’ve encountered/witnessed any racism on the trail  Thus far, it’s really only been elderly Jews saying “I have a friend who wouldn’t vote…”

Until yesterday.

While canvassing in one neighborhood, I was blown away when a woman who is herself supporting Obama, shared that her husband would never vote for a black man (neither is Jewish).  She then went on to share that other members of her community would similarly not vote for a black man – or at the very least, would not admit it.

Ugh!  I look forward to Obama really putting this issue to rest when people see that color doesn’t matter one iota in one’s skills or knowledge.
